Back in 2007, all of my friends were busy releasing gospel music CD's. Actually only two friends, Jay and Amy released CD's, but at the time, it seemed like a whole lot more. Being the jealous type, I decided to release a CD of my own. I entitled the CD, "A Little Slice of Sven". Sven is of course a nickname, a shortened version of my given name. Each of the tracks of my "CD" represent just a little slice of my incredible talents (if only in my own mind). Here is a copy of the press release and album cover:
Eclectica records is pleased to announce the long awaited release of “A Little Slice of Sven”. A dynamic and multi-talented artist, Sven reveals his gift for words and unequaled musical versatility in this unique collection of Mormon family favorites that will entertain and inspire you. Here is what this wonderful CD has to offer:
1. AYE-YI-YI-YI! There is a nothing like a rousing Norteño Mexican band to get your blood pumping. With accordion and trumpets blaring, Sven’s Norteño version of “Count Your Blessings” or "Cuenta Tus Bendiciónes" will have you dancing in the aisles and counting your blessings out loud… Uno, dos, tres, QUATRO!
2. As Sven and Kermit the Frog are both aware, it’s not easy being green! In his remake of Kermit’s classic “Rainbow Connection”, Sven demonstrates his unique six finger banjo style as he hums and strums his way into your heart. Here’s where you’ll find it… the rainbow connection… the lovers… the dreamers… and Sven!
3. What collection of Sven’s would be complete without his 50’s inspired version of “Do What is Right”. You’ll be singing and swinging in three part harmony right along with Sven as he sings… Do - Do - Do - Wop - Wop - is - right!
4. Neither Frankie Valli nor Tiny Tim can hold a candle to Sven’s falsetto performance of “Choose the Right”. The unusual bagpipe intermezzo by famed Scottish bagpipe virtuoso William Boyle will leave you squirming in your seat. This song answers the age old question; “Can anyone harmonize with a bagpipe?” The answer is… Sven can!
5. There was no one who entertained America more in the 1940’s than Bing Crosby. Sven performs “Give, Said the Little Stream” as a tribute to Bing Crosby’s grandmother, Fanny who penned the words to this treasured children’s hymn. You’ll swear you are listening to “Der Bingle” himself as Sven takes you back to a simpler place and time with his rich baritone voice.... Ba-ba-ba-boom!
6. White guys can’t Rap? After Vanilla Ice, everyone thought that was true! Sven breaks the stereotype and the mold as he combines elements of Hip-Hop and Rap to create a whole new musical genre he calls Hip-Rap. His Hip-Rap version of “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief” will leave you crying and asking for more.
7. Track seven of this landmark CD features Sven at the keyboard, but not just ANY keyboard. As a child of the 60’s and 70’s, Sven was a techno-geek who loved the electronic sounds of the first Moog Synthesizer. As a teen, Sven learned to manipulate hundreds of slide switches and potentiometers connected to an old Wurlitzer tube organ to make some really “out-a-sight” sounds. His mastery of this difficult instrument is demonstrated in his all synthesized, instrumental version of “Popcorn Poppin’ on the Apricot Tree” As a special treat, this song features a 7 minute long drum solo by Sven (Ala In-a-Gada-Da-Vida) to enhance the 60’s experience. HAVE A NICE DAY!
8. As the father of six, Sven enjoyed watching his children singing in church. On Father’s Day they always sang “I’m So Glad When Daddy Comes Home”. Now that he has grandchildren (21, but who’s counting?) Sven has re-written this Mormon classic from grandpa’s point of view. Every grandparent knows the simple joys of having the grandchildren visit for a whole week. This new version entitled “I’m So Glad When Grandkids Go Home” is destined to become a Mormon geriatric favorite.
9. In “My Favorite Things 2007”, Sven rewrites and performs the Sound of Music classic for a modern audience. Sven’s gift for prose is found in such simple words as:
Cream colored I-pods and hot toaster strudels,
Texting on cell phones and Top Ramen noodles,
Microwave dinners and Buffalo wings,
These are a few of my favorite things,
When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I’m feeling sad,
I simply blame others and file a lawsuit,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Thanks to Sven, you’ll never again need to wonder what schnitzel is!
“A Little Slice of Sven” is only $19.99 and will be available in all Circle K convenience stores after January 1st, 2008!
So this is it... your introduction to me and the way my mind works. A little scary... isn't it?
